The focus of this Learn to Skate Program is to teach children, ages 3 and over, the fundamental skills required to become good skaters with the potential of developing an interest in the sport of ice hockey or figure skating. The goal of each participant is to "learn and to be the best skater I can be." This is accomplished through easy to follow instruction, fun drills, and placing the children into groups by age and ability.
We will hold three 6 week session consecutively. Beginners can start at the start of any session, no need to have been in session 1 to join session 2 or 3. Times and dates are subject to change.
The cost for participating in the program will be $50.00 per child/per session.
All children will be required to wear a helmet (hockey helmet preferred), gloves/mittens. No child or adult will be allowed on the ice without a helmet. We also recommend elbow/knee pads to soften falls, but they are not required. Rentals are not available. Please place a piece of tape with your child’s first name on the front of his or her helmet. Protection for the teeth is highly recommended. Boys and girls are also encouraged to use a protective mask (cage or visor). A good pair of proper fitting skates is important as well. Hockey sticks will be necessary for experienced skaters.
All skaters are REQUIRED by Mass Hockey to register with USA Hockey prior to skating. Once you have completed your online registration with NCMYH please visit: https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/register_form_input.action to register with USA Hockey. A link to USA hockey is also available from our home page under "links". You must enter your skater's USA Hockey Confirmation number in their profile or bring a copy to the 1st session in order for them to enter on to the ice. No exceptions will be made.
